The Benefits Of Yoga

What I have learned over years is that yoga is for everyone – all shapes, sizes, ages and ability. Yoga isn’t competitive or a fitness programme to see how hard you can push yourself but a way to tune into your own body, improve your muscle tone, strengthen your bones & joints and provide a sense of calm in an otherwise busy mind.  There is no requirement for flexibility before you attend a class, just the ability to move and a positive attitude!

I can’t promise you you’ll be on the scales every week losing pounds or doing the splits within a month, but what I can promise you is that you will have a new understanding of your own body and what works best for you. You should leave every class not only feeling that you’ve worked your muscles, but you’ll feel relaxed, tension-free and with some luck you will get a full night’s sleep. Over and above the instant benefits you’ll feel there are many long term gains to be had if you continue in your practice.

Listed below are some of the many benefits of a daily yoga practice:

  • Improve your flexibility, strength and posture
  • Improved joint function
  • Strengthened bones
  • Increased muscle strength & tone
  • Improves metabolism
  • Weight reduction
  • Improved sleep quality
  • Chronic pain reduction
  • Relieves stress & anxiety
  • Improved organ function
  • Aids digestion
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Can ease depression
  • Better breathing & lung capacity
  • Improved balance & concentration

These are only some of the health benefits of yoga but I have always found that one of the most important ones is that you will find a new appreciation of your own body and have the ability to tune in and listen to what it’s telling you. We are all encased in the most amazing form which we mostly take for granted in our day to day lives. Look after your body and your body will look after you!

I look forward to seeing you on the mat!
