There is absolutely no doubt that 2020 will be a year to remember (or even better, forget). Our face to face yoga classes came to an abrupt halt in March this year along with all other forms of group exercise so we did what we had to do to adapt.
Like other studios, we started streaming our classes live through Zoom not knowing just how beneficial these classes would become to us as we were stuck working at home, furloughed, home-schooling and anxious about the future. Our little group of yogis showed commitment that was second to none and together, we upped our yoga practice game joining more classes than we ever did. Some joined all 7 classes a week!
We got together in the mornings before sitting at the laptop on dining room chairs or getting the kids on to Joe Wickes & even the yogis on furlough made a huge effort to get up at normal work time and keep a routine going throughout! Our classes became a wee lifeline for us – not just in the physical sense (working at home requires lots of movement out with or you’ll seize up!) but also in an emotional sense too. A little bit of self-care time were we could escape what was going on around us all from the comfort of our own homes. For me, who lives alone, it proved to be a fantastic way to stay in touch and it provided another point of communication with the outside world.
Now, just as we thought we’d be practising together again we enter into the next lockdown in Scotland’s central belt and our classes are off again. These last few months have shown us how important our yoga practice is – not just on our own, but together for our physical fitness and also our mental health. Why weren’t we allowed the chance to come back to class with social distancing restrictions in place? At this point we’ll never know if we could practice safely together without spreading the dreaded virus.
But thank God for technology! It has brought us together in so many positive ways (and yet still drives us apart in other ways…. but that’s for another post) The result for New Moon Yoga is that even when we’re fully back on track, we’ll still be streaming our classes to share our practice with yogis far & wide who perhaps can’t join us in person.
We will strive to keep you safe in class when the time comes and adhere to all safety measures. I will post details over the next couple of weeks on what you need to do before coming to class and what you need to bring with you.
Until then, look after yourself, stay safe & get in touch if you want to join us on Zoom or set up a 121 session.
